An homage to artwork
In homage to NFT.NYCs showcase of community artworks Hound Bites is inspired to put out our own list of arresting album covers, from the iconic and well known to the sublime and understated classic.
Velvet Underground
A banana FFS. By Warhol. It stops you dead in your tracks.
Rock n Roll Over – Kiss
New York’s masters of the brand. RnRO is possibly their finest artwork – inspired a thousand NFT artworks and counting so far.
Demanufacture – Fear Factory
A chilling biomechanical fusion from the mind of celebrated Brit comic book digital artist Dave McKean. Hi-Tech Hate indeed.
Hysteria – Def Leppard
What is it? Who cares! Cyber style cyphers ‘n’ gliphs targeting a mutoid face for annihilation. For many it is THE defining album cover of 80s rock. 20+ million of these can be found in collections the world over.
Never mind the Bollocks – Sex Pistols
If you’re gonna get people’s attention you go big or you go home. The Pistols’ iconic Jamie Reid art defined an entire movement of visceral street art style. Big balls, indeed.
III – Led Zeppelin
The wheel! It spins in the sleeve! It alters perspectives! It reveals new truths! A funky plaything whose intact sleeves on original copies are spectacularly rare due to the unprecedented scale of ‘roach’ rolling…
Sticky Fingers – the Rolling Stones
It’s all about the zip. Go on you know you want to….
Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
Iconic. Innovative. Inspiring. Never bettered.
Screaming for Vengeance – Judas Priest
Created by Canadian artist Doug Johnson and one of the three in an iconic run of Priest covers (alongside Defenders of the Faith and Turbo), Screaming was the breakthrough album and cemented the image as one of the central icons of 80s metal. Beloved of badged up denim jackets everywhere.
Nevermind – Nirvana
Greed, exploitation, fragility and hope all bound into one wry image. Makes ya think. And that’s art.
Ramones – Ramones
As raw n real as it’s possible to be. It’s a band of brothers in an urban war zone.
The Real Thing – Faith No More
Surrealism or an in-joke? Who knows? The band had next to nothing to do with its origination, but Harold Edgerton’s famous milksplash photography plays a defining part of the central image. And, let’s face it, a quirky but stirring cover rather fits FNM.
Rammstein – Mutter
Chilling but beautiful. Haunting yet tender. An unborn foetus in the womb. And representing and album called Mutter which features brutalist stomping ! We love it.
